Dishwasher Installation Cost in 2026: National Benchmarks and What Changed

The annual benchmark page for dishwasher installation cost in 2026. Replacement labor sits at $150 to $300 nationally; first-time installs run $300 to $700. Imported appliance brands carry a 6% to 12% MSRP lift this year because of the spring 2026 tariff adjustment; labor rose 3% to 5% tracking plumber and appliance-installer wages. Below: the full picture, plus a directory of every brand, retailer, scenario, and state cost guide on this site.

The 2026 national benchmark

The 2026 numbers in this guide are drawn from four independent sources: the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment Statistics Q4 2025 release for plumber and appliance-installer wages (SOC 47-2152 and SOC 49-9031), the HomeAdvisor 2026 dishwasher installation cost guide, retailer install-package pricing from Home Depot, Lowe's, and Best Buy sampled April 2026, and our own quote-sampling across ten US metros in March and April 2026. Where the sources diverge meaningfully, we report the median.

What changed in 2026 vs 2025

Three things moved in 2026 worth flagging.

Appliance MSRP on imports lifted 6% to 12%. The spring 2026 tariff adjustment on European and Korean home appliances added a meaningful step-up to imported-brand pricing. Bosch raised the 800 Series MSRP from $1,099 (early 2025) to $1,199 in February 2026, a 9% lift. Miele moved the G 5000 line from $1,599 to $1,749, a 9.4% lift. Samsung Bespoke panel-ready models lifted 10% to 12% depending on configuration. LG models lifted similarly. The pattern is clear: anything imported is up roughly a full tariff cycle. Domestic-brand pricing (Whirlpool, KitchenAid, GE, Frigidaire, Maytag) is up 2% to 4%, tracking general inflation rather than tariff.

Labor lifted 3% to 5%. The Q4 2025 BLS release showed plumber median wages up 4.1% year-over-year nationally and appliance-installer wages up 3.8%. The lift is largely a continuation of the post-2020 wage-growth pattern in skilled trades; it is not unusually sharp. Loaded all-in cost (insurance, vehicle, overhead) flowed through to homeowner bids at the same pace.

Supply-line and bracket parts stayed flat. Stainless braided supply lines, mounting brackets, air-gap fittings, and standard drain components are all manufactured in significant US, Mexican, and Asian volumes outside the tariff scope; pricing has not moved materially. A $25 braided line in early 2025 is still a $25 braided line in mid-2026.

Net effect on a typical $1,000 install package (mid-tier appliance plus install plus haul-away): a homeowner paid roughly $980 to $1,020 in early 2025 and pays $1,030 to $1,080 in mid-2026 for the same job using a domestic-brand unit. For an imported-brand unit the same homeowner pays $1,090 to $1,160 in mid-2026.

The 2026 buyer's decision tree

If your existing dishwasher works but is 8 to 12 years old and showing wear (cycles taking longer, drainage slower, occasional leaks): plan a replacement before the next major failure, ideally during the Memorial Day or Black Friday sale window. Budget $900 to $1,500 for the appliance plus install package.

If your existing dishwasher has failed (no power, no fill, sustained leak from the tub): replace, not repair, if the unit is over 7 years old. The repair cost on a major component (control board, pump, tub) typically lands at $300 to $600, which is half the price of a new mid-tier unit with a fresh warranty. Pay current pricing for the replacement; sale-window discounts do not apply to emergency timing.

If you are doing a full kitchen remodel and the kitchen has no prior dishwasher: budget $500 to $900 for first-time install labor (plumber plus electrician), $100 to $200 in permits, plus the appliance. Schedule the install for after the cabinets are dry-fitted but before the countertops are templated, so the installer can confirm cabinet-bay clearance before stone is cut.

If you are upgrading to a premium brand or panel-ready unit: budget the appliance cost separately from the install. The install premium on a Benchmark or Miele unit over a Whirlpool replacement is $50 to $150, not the multiple-hundred-dollar lift that some retailers suggest. The premium is mostly in the appliance, not the labor.

What to ask in any 2026 quote

  1. Is the labor itemised by line (basic install, supply line, brackets, haul-away, permit)? Round-number quotes mask trade-offs.
  2. Does the quote include haul-away? At Home Depot, yes free; at Lowe's, yes in most markets; at independents, $35 to $75 extra unless you self-haul.
  3. Are stainless braided supply lines included or extra? Should always be included on any install over $200.
  4. For stone counters: are side-mount brackets included or extra? Bosch and KitchenAid require them.
  5. For California, Florida, or other code-strict states: does the quote include the air-gap fitting (CA mandatory) or NOA-listed parts (Miami-Dade and Broward)?
  6. Is the installer licensed for the trade required? Appliance installers can handle replacement on existing hookups; first-time installs need a licensed plumber and electrician.
  7. What is the warranty on the install labor itself? Most reputable installers offer 90 days to 1 year on the connections they made, separate from the appliance manufacturer warranty.

FAQ

Will 2026 install costs keep climbing through the year?

Labor wages typically climb steadily through the year tracking BLS quarterly releases. Appliance MSRP changes are step-function, tied to tariff and supply-chain events rather than continuous drift. Our best estimate is a further 2% to 3% drift in labor through Q4 2026 and broadly flat appliance pricing barring a fresh tariff event.

Is there a sale window cheaper than Memorial Day or Black Friday?

Memorial Day (May 24-27) and Black Friday (Nov 27) are the deepest. Labor Day weekend, July 4, and the January Presidents' Day window are also solid (10% to 15% off MSRP). The Christmas-to-New-Year clearance is the longest window with consistent discounting. See best time of year to install a dishwasher.

What about extended warranties in 2026?

The extended-warranty math rarely works in the buyer's favor on dishwashers. Reliability data from Consumer Reports dishwasher reliability surveys shows Bosch, Miele, KitchenAid, and Whirlpool all sitting in the top half of brand reliability. Extended warranties at $150 to $300 cover repair scenarios that statistically affect less than 15% of units in years 2 through 5. Skip them.

Can I get a 2026 install quote without committing?

Yes. Most independent installers, Home Depot, and Lowe's offer free in-home quotes for kitchens needing a first-time install or non-standard scope. The retailer in-home quote is usually attached to a sales pitch; the independent quote is usually cleaner. Three quotes remain the right discipline.

Is energy-efficient pricing a real factor in 2026?

Energy Star qualified dishwashers do not cost more to install than non-qualified units; the appliance MSRP may run $50 to $150 higher for the Energy Star certification but the install is identical. The 2026 federal Inflation Reduction Act energy-efficient appliance rebates (administered through state programs) cover up to $840 per dishwasher in qualifying households, which can substantially offset the install package. Check your state energy office for current rebate status.

What if I need an emergency install on a weekend?

Emergency or weekend service typically carries a 50% to 100% labor premium. Replacement-only on existing hookups is rarely a true emergency unless a leak is causing damage; in most cases, capping the supply at the under-sink shutoff and waiting until Monday is a better economic choice than paying weekend rates.
